Mother of Kartli

"Mother of Kartli" - a monument in the capital of Georgia, become to one of symbols of Tbilisi.

The monument was constructed at top of the hill of Sololaka in 1958 when the city of Tbilisi I celebrated the 1500-year anniversary. The author of a monument 20 meters high is the Georgian sculptor Elgudzha Amashukeli. Originally, in 1958 the monument was executed from a tree. In 1963 it was replaced with the aluminum.

The statue symbolizes the Georgian national character: the female figure holds in the left hand a bowl with wine for a greeting of those who came as the friend, and in the right hand a sword for those who came as the enemy.
