Short description


Tbilisi - the capital of Georgia. The first mention of the city of Tbilisi in chronicles belongs to the IV century AD. And in the V century the city became one of the largest trade and craft and cultural centers of the Middle East. For the long history Tbilisi many times reduced to ashes, but it was over and over again restored and blossomed anew. And now Tbilisi is the large industrial and cultural center of the country.


Sights
Sights of Tbilisi are concentrated in two parts of the city. One of them — the historical center Tbilisi — "The old city". The second — is the central city street, Rustaveli Avenue called in honor of the well-known poet of Georgia, Shota Rustaveli.


"The old city", located at the bottom of the mountain of Mtatsmind, represents concentration of narrow brick small streets on which there are ruins of medieval fortress of Narikal, the temple Metekhi of 1278-1293, "Norashen's" drevy temples, "Dzhvaris mama", "Betlemi", "Metekhi", the palace of queen Daridzhan "Sachino".
In the historical center there is also Armenian Apostolic church, the Synagogue and a Muslim mosque.

In the downtown there is a Sacred mountain – Mtatsminda called also by the mountain of David with whom the bewitching panorama of all Tbilisi opens. The interesting building of the top station of a cable car, Sacred David's small church and cemetery on which outstanding figures of Georgia are buried deserve attention.

On the mountain the most ancient fortress in Tbilisi — Narikala called by locals "soul and a heart of the city" is located also. There is it since the basis of the city. In its territory there is Sacred Nikolay's XII temple of the eyelid which internal part is decorated to frescos with bible scenes and the images telling about stories of Georgia.

Sacred Maria's today carrying the name "Anchiskhatsky" the ancient stone church — the squared beautiful building. Doors of church are decorated with the traditional Georgian cross, made Sacred Nino. The modern building of the Cathedral of Sameba reaches 78 m in height and it is visible from any point of the city.

World famous Tbilisi sulfuric baths (bath of tsar Rostom), are obliged to the emergence to hot sulfuric springs. They are located in old part of the city, on Grishashvili Street, near Kura Embankment. Oldest of all is the Irakliyevsky bath, and the most beautiful – Orbeliansk. All baths are called on names of their former owners. Now there are balnearies.

Near baths the monument to the Georgian artist Nicko Pirosmanishvili is located.
Known monument in historical part of the city — Mother Georgia which has become a symbol of the city. In the left hand of a sculpture there is a cup, and in right – a sword. In the center of Gorgasali Street there is a monument devoted to the 300th soldiers mountaineers, heroically killed in battle with armies of the Iranian shah Aga Mohammed-khan in 1795. Before it the Eternal flame burns.

On Rustaveli Avenue there is a National museum of Georgia. It stores a set of subjects of the Caucasian culture and materials of excavation on Trialeti's barrow.
Here are located the Museum of arts in which the Tiflissky theological seminary once settled down; Sacred George's representing the copy of medieval church of Samtavisi the Temple.

Natural sight of Tbilisi — the picturesque Turtle lake located at the height of 800 m above sea level in an environment of the woods. This most beloved vacation spot of locals and guests of the capital.

The bottom of Metekhsky fortress has the oldest Botanical garden in the Caucasus, based in 1845, and numbering in the collection about 5 thousand species of plants.


Transport
In the city the international airport is located, there is a railway and bus service between the cities of Georgia and neighboring countries. The public transport is presented by the subway, buses and a taxi.

Climate

Climate of Tbilisi subtropical, with long soft summer and in the warm winter. Average annual temperature: + 12,9C. Average temperature of January makes + 1C, July - + 25C.
